Simply apply aqueous and chlorinated solvents to the column for a quick separation. A special hydrophobic frit allows the chlorinated solvent to pass through under gravity while preventing the aqueous layer from flowing though. The aqueous layer remains in the separator column, separating the two phases and allowing additional work up.
