The Cole-Parmer SamplePrep BM-200 Mixer/Mill pulverizes even the toughest samples reducing them to a fine powder for easy analysis. Designed for small-scale sample preparation, the Mixer/Mill processes samples as small as 1 gram or mixing up to 3 mL. A choice of steel, agate, tungsten carbide, and plastic vials are available for use in the interchangeable vial holders for each vial type. Select speed from 750, 2000, 3000, or 3500 rpm for slow-speed mixing to high-speed milling.

The vial, which contains a sample and one ball, is shaken in a complex motion that combines back-and-forth swings with short lateral movements, each end of the vial describing a figure-8. With each swing the ball impacts against one end of the vial, simultaneously milling the sample to a powder and blending it.
